The Essential Vocabulary of Critical Path Analysis.
Earliest Start Date: The earliest date a task can be started in the project.
Earliest Finish Date: The earliest date your task can be completed.
Latest Start Date: The very last minute in which a task can be started before it threatens to upset your project schedule.
Latest Finish Date: The latest time in which a task can be finished before it threatens to upset your project schedule.
Float (a.k.a. Slack): How long you can delay a task before it impacts and/or threatens the project’s deadline.
Crash Duration: The shortest amount of time that a task can be scheduled.
Critical Path Drag: When time is added to the project because of a task and/or constraint.
What is Critical Path Analysis?
The longest distance between the start and finish of your project, including all the tasks and their duration, which gives a clear picture of the project’s actual schedule. Which tasks are independent or dependent, and which tasks depend on which other tasks are part of this analysis.
Basic Steps:
Tasks: List all the tasks needed to complete the project.
Duration: Note the duration of those tasks.
Dependencies: Include task dependencies
Deliverables: Note milestones. List Deliverables.
